Ready to Go!!
Well, let the madness begin...
On Friday, the members of Team Hydrate (Jenny and I) went to the Co-Motion bike-building factory here in Eugene. After a month and a half of waiting, we are now the new owners of a Speedster Co-Pilot tandem outfitted with a touring package. Yes, it's true...we are leaving in two weeks to ride 5,000 miles on this thing and although we have trained hard on our single bikes, we haven't ridden a tandem for more than 20 minutes. Dwan and the folks at Co-Motion have been great to work with and we appreciate all their help. If you're looking to get a new bike, don't buy without talking to Co-Motion.
After a quick 'shakedown' ride we were so excited to go that we left our car in the parking lot and headed out on our first overnight trip on the tandem.
We fit all this...
Into this...
After packing up Jenny was ready to go...
We pedaled about 50 miles to Sharps Creek near Dorena Lake. Riding a tandem is so much fun! The take-off requires a little practice, especially when loaded with gear, but once you get going, it is a great ride. We can turn smoothly and were even able to both stand at the same time to get up hills. Coming down hills is a rush with all that momentum...can't wait to see what it's like to cruise down the Rockies!
It was a beautiful night. We hung out by the creek, ate, slept, and left the next morning at 6:30 AM. We loved riding the tandem and are very excited about our trip. We hope it inspires people to appreciate what they have and support the work of Thirst Relief International.
Stay tuned for more updates...
