Flying toilets and more
2008 was declared the International Year of Sanitation by the U.N. Water, sanitation, and hygiene are all inextricably linked in the effort to improve a community's health. Without safe water to wash hands after using the toilet, people can spread disease and become sick themselves. Without proper sanitary facilities, water sources easily become contaminated.
Several of Thirst Relief's partners implement sanitation projects alongside their water development activities. While sanitation can be a squeamish subject, it is an important one, since 2.6 billion people today lack the privacy and dignity of a place to use the bathroom. (World Health Organization)
This morning I ran across a really cool blog post on the subject, thanks to my Google news alert. When I read the term "flying toilets", I just had to share. But you'll have to click here to learn what a flying toilet really is. :)
